Cause

Windows has a setting that prevents applications on the machine from using encryption that are not compliant with Federal Information Processing Standards(FIPS). This issue usually occurs when FIPS interferes with update download process.

Affected Software

Revu 20

Resolution

Bluebeam® software is not currently certified as compatible with FIPS, and due to this, isn't able to support environments with this type of security. The users should work with their organization's IT team as they will need to investigate the issue and determine what changes must be made within the environment to allow the updates.

  1. Obtain Revu logs to pinpoint the issue
    • In Revu, open Revu Preferences "Ctrl+K"
    •  Click Admin from the list on the left
    • Ensure the Extended Debugging checkbox is checked
    • Click on "Explore Log Folder"
  2. From the log file, search for any instances of FIPS. The logs will include a line such as "System.InvalidOperationException: This implementation is not part of the Windows Platform FIPS validated cryptographic algorithms." as shown in the log file below:
  3. If there is evidence of errors in the log related to FIPS configuration, work with your IT team, as they will need to investigate the issue to determine what steps to take to allow the updates.
  4. This article about FIPS explains the scenario and what adjustments your IT will need to make to your environment: This implementation is not part of the Windows Platform FIPS validated cryptographic algorithms - eOne Solutions
