Question:

How do I prevent the text in a Revit family from rotating with the family?

Answer:

Text that is placed in model families and detail components is always achieved by using a nested annotation family.

In order to fix this, the main family needs to be edited by selecting an instance and clicking "Edit Family" on the modify ribbon.

Once in the family, select the text element that is rotating, and click "Edit Family" on the Modify ribbon. This will get you to the annotation family. You will know you are in the annotation family when the properties pallet looks like the image below without anything selected.

Check the property "Keep text readable" in the properties pallet. Load the annotation family back into the main family, and then the main family back into the project. Once complete, any upside down or text read from the left will be fixed.
