Layer Changes Made to XREFS are not saving properly

Issue

When working on a drawing that contains one or more XREFS (External References) layers, changes made to the XREF layers (such as Off, Freeze, or Color Changes) are not saved after the drawing is saved, closed, and then reopened.

Cause

The System Variable VISRETAIN may be set to the value 0.

Solution

Type VISRETAIN and then press Enter. Type the value 1 and then press enter.  Layer changes made to XREF layers will now be saved in your host drawings.
